Online Music Lessons

INDIVIDUAL ONLINE MUSIC LESSON, HOW DOES IT WORK?

Skype, Zoom music lessons at Edora MS are the easiest, most comfortable, and most efficient way to study any musical instrument. Below you will learn about how to prepare for your first lesson, which kind of technical equipment you need to use during your online session, what computer programs do you need to install, and more:

01

You will need a PC or a tablet/laptop with a webcam (built-in or external), an Internet connection, SKYPE (which you can download here for free) and of course your musical instrument. Your Internet connection speed should not be less than 500kbps. At lower speeds, the video or sound might not work correctly during your Skype call. Follow this link to test your Internet speed connection.

Most laptops, tablets, and PCs usually have a built-in high-quality camera. After your first lesson, you will know if your camera is acceptable or if you will need to get a new one. The room where your online lessons will take place should have good lighting: try not to sit in front of the window, but remember that dim light is also undesirable. We recommend using a table lamp together with normal room lighting. Always check the proper functioning of your technical equipment and your Internet connection speed before each lesson starts!

02

Install Skype (free video calling program) and make sure that everything works correctly by making a call to your friends, or you can make a test call to the Echo / Sound Test Service.

Do not forget to sit in front of the camera during the video call so that your entire musical instrument is visible. At the same time, make sure that you are not too far from the camera and the image is not too small. In any case, the teacher will tell you how to sit correctly during the first lesson.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ALL STUDENTS

AS WELL AS FOR PARENTS OF JUNIOR STUDENTS AT Edora MS

01Be sure to tell your teacher about the results you want to achieve, and also about the songs (pieces, musical compositions) you want to play or sing. Do not hesitate to ask questions if something is not clear to you during the lesson. The more teachers know about your goals and musical preferences, the easier it will be for them to create an effective plan for your musical development.

02Parents of junior students are welcome to attend the lessons also! Sit in on your children’s lessons and monitor educational progress on your own. Due to modern conference calling services, you do not need to be in the same room with your child in order to supervise the process. It is also important that you are aware of the lesson plan for the week, so that you can help your child prepare and encourage him/her to practice or complete any homework assignments him/her may have. Please keep in touch with your child’s teacher and make sure that your child always comes to class well prepared.

03For samples of online lessons with our students, please visit our YouTube channel or check the attached videos below. These videos will give you a clear idea of how we work and how we teach. On this page, you will also find the biographies of all the teachers at Edora MS.

04You or your child should speak English because all lessons at Edora MS are taught in English. Classical, acoustic guitar and mandolin can be taught in Italian as well as in English.

05For classical students who want to build their lesson around some particular piece, please send to your teacher the appropriate sheet music a few days before your actual lesson time. This way the teacher can be prepared for the lesson with the correct fingering, articulations, and dynamics.

HOW WE DO THAT

Edora MS gives online lessons via Skype to students around the world. We teach classical/acoustic/electric guitar, singing, violin, piano, banjo, and mandolin. These videos are clips taken from Skype lessons with our students. Face-to-face Skype lessons are 60 minutes long. All supporting materials such as tabs, chords, sheet music, and exercises are provided absolutely free before each lesson.

Online acoustic guitar lesson. Student: Sarah (First Year of Studies); teacher: Daria. Sarah is one of our students from England. Being a student with a limited budget, Sarah’s primary goal was to find a professional music teacher for a reasonable cost, so she chose Edora MS because we provide the best service at moderate prices. Her teacher Daria led the lesson from Italy. Sarah was given essential tips for proper chords changes on the song “Riptide” by Vance Joy.

Online Contemporary Singing Lesson. Student: Ryuya (first year of studies); teacher: Iryna. Ryuya is our new student from Japan.
In this lesson, Ryuya was given essential tips for proper voice posture, the correct way to breathe and control the singing voice. The student has already learned a few important basic exercises for smooth vocal breaks and alignment of vowels in singing. The exercises were followed by the first attempt to perform the legendary “Let It Be” by the Beatles.
