Intermediate Classical Guitar Lessons
Intermediate classical guitar lessons will suit those students who have been studying guitar for two years or more, know music theory fundamentals and musical notation, can effortlessly sight-read easy musical compositions, and have a couple of dozen pieces and etudes in their repertoire. The program is designed to expand and deepen professional knowledge and skills, work on guitar tone production, and learn the world’s greatest classical masterpieces as well as essential guitar pieces.
Note that studying with a teacher is important in the formation of a musician’s performance skills. Self-study does not give you a real assessment and evaluation of your performance level, which often leads to failures and mistakes such as the wrong choice of a musical piece (for instance, an advanced composition that is a few levels higher than your current level).
Edora MS recommends that intermediate guitar players take lessons with a teacher at least two times a week.
Intermediate classical guitar lessons at Edora MS cover the following topics:
- Exercises for developing technique and coordination of the right and left hands. This includes studying the most useful and effective etudes and exercises from M. Giuliani, F. Sor, M. Carcassi, and D. Aguado classical methods as well as from the modern method books of I. Ricardo, A. Carlevaro, and J. Cardoso. This also involves a variety of exercises for playing great sounding bar chords, practicing in higher positions, and playing all over the neck. Furthermore, you will learn two/three octave major/minor scales.
- Working on guitar tone production and formation of a pure, clean, and deep guitar sound. Discover how to file your fingernails the right way and achieve the correct nail shape for proper technique and tone production, and improve apoyando (rest stroke) and tirando (free stroke) technic. Moreover, lessons cover the vibrato technique, and natural (open) and artificial harmonics. Initial concepts of musical ornaments and embellishments, different arpeggio patterns, and drop D tuning.
- Classical guitar repertoire and etudes. Understanding and correct interpretation of Renaissance, baroque, and modern classical music styles. You will learn the most famous guitar masterpieces of Francisco Tárrega, Mauro Giuliani, Agustín Barrios, Joaquín Rodrigo, etc. If you like to play the well-known masterpieces of J.C. Bach, L.V. Beethoven, W.A. Mozart or other composers who did not write for guitar, your teacher will transcribe the pieces you select by referring to your needs, requirements, and music performance level.
- How to tune a guitar by ear, improving knowledge of solfeggio, and understanding the polyphonic nature of the guitar. Focusing on the bass lines; separating the melodic lines from the accompaniment. Dynamics and phrasing as a crucial aspect of musical expression. Accents, syncopated rhythms, complex rhythmic structures (triplet, quintuplet, etc.). Developing side-reading skills.
Edora MS is a classically oriented school where the education is organized using modern computer technologies. We provide our students with an opportunity to learn musical instruments with a personal teacher online through Skype.
According to recent research, the effectiveness of education under a teacher’s supervision is 70% higher compared to self-study by online music courses and various YouTube lessons. However, you can learn a musical instrument on your own, but it would not be worth it. This is because most times, to learn on your own a piece of music effectively takes a few months. During this period probably, you would lose motivation and confidence in yourself. In other words, various online music courses & tutorials that are promoted on the Internet, despite the growing popularity, will not replace the live communication with the teacher, and would not give you the desired rapid progress. You might even stop playing guitar and lose all interest in studying.
The teachers of Edora MS will help you love studying and playing guitar.
