Acoustic/Electric Guitar Lessons for Beginners
Beginner acoustic/electric guitar lessons are designed for all those who want to learn to play the acoustic/electric guitar from scratch, and for re-beginners who have decided to resume their training.
The main goals of the lessons are posture and proper hand position. You will know how to hold and use a guitar pick and learn basic major and minor chords. Already from the first lessons, you will start playing your first musical compositions and easy melodies. If you do not have a guitar, our teachers will give you valuable tips and recommendations that will help you choose the right instrument, taking into account your budget. We will also help you in choosing the right pick (“plectrum”).
Note that the initial period of training is crucial in the formation of a musician’s performance skills. There are many examples among guitarists who at the beginning of their studies did not pay enough attention to the fundamental elements, such as the correct hand position and proper guitar posture, and this subsequently adversely affected their progress in music learning.
Control by the teacher is essential at the beginning of your study. Edora MS recommends that beginners take lessons with a teacher at least two times a week.
Beginner acoustic/electric guitar lessons cover the following topics:
- Studying the basic major and minor chords and chords progressions while subsequently applying them in simple songs. At our school, there is no “standard,” “unified” repertoire for all students. You are free to choose any musical piece you would like to play, and your teacher will help arrange the composition you have selected, referring to your needs, requirements, and music performance level. You will be able to play melodies and pieces from the first lessons. Along with playing chords, you will learn melodies on a single string and gradually go to melodies that include all strings.
- Essential strumming patterns and basic rhythm accompaniment; exercises to improve your right and left-hand technique. You will learn simple major and minor scales and exercises for developing control of both upstrokes and downstrokes. Beginner movable chord shapes and triads, tri-tone and basic knowledge of passing chords, introduction to chords substitution, various omission chords, and different string combinations.
- Develop your right-hand picking technique. Improve the quality of your guitar tone, make the guitar sound dense, pure, and clean. You will learn helpful chord changing strategies that will help you change chords smoothly, without extraneous sounds and stops. Moreover, you will practice phrasing possibilities in positions.
- How to read tablature and tune your guitar, fundamentals of music theory, playing by ear, and fretboard geography. Learning musical notation is not mandatory for the acoustic (electric) guitar program, as it is enough to know how to read Tabs and chord boxes. Although the tablature is often written without rhythmic notation, during the lessons at our school, the teachers use one that is presented with stems and beams indicating rhythm corresponding to standard notation. Therefore, you will learn such musical terms as rhythm, bars, notes values, time signatures, etc. Also learn how to find chords for simple melodies, play easy melodies by ear, and distinguish different notes and chords.
Edora MS is a classically oriented school where education is organized using modern computer technologies. We provide our students with an opportunity to learn musical instruments with a personal teacher online through Skype, Zoom etc.
According to recent research, the effectiveness of education under a teacher’s supervision is 70% higher compared to self-study by online music courses and various YouTube lessons. However, you can learn a guitar on your own, but it would not be worth it especially if you are a beginner. This is because most times, to learn on your own a piece of music effectively takes a few months. During this period probably, you would lose motivation and confidence in yourself.
In other words, various online music courses & tutorials that are promoted on the Internet, despite the growing popularity, will not replace the live communication with the teacher, and would not give you the desired rapid progress. Besides, self-study does not give you a real assessment and evaluation of your performance level, which often leads to failures and mistakes such as the wrong choice of a musical piece (for instance, an advanced composition that is a few levels higher than your current level). You might even stop playing guitar and lose all interest in studying.
The teachers of Edora MS will help you love studying and playing the guitar. There are a large number of sites that could provide similar services, but our research has shown us the administrations of these sites have no idea about their freelancers’ competence. Unlike them, Edora MS arranges labor contracts only with certified teachers whose qualifications we are confident about. All of our teachers possess vast pedagogical experience, have graduated from the best European music academies, and have earned many awards for their performance as musicians. They are able to meet the selection criteria to a very high standard, and we can assure you the best quality of services and professionalism from our team.
